When Inters and Cadets players wish to coach a junior team at St Ives Netball Club.
The purpose of the Junior Coaching policy is:
a) to develop our Inters and Cadet players into enthusiastic and knowledgeable netball coaches
b) to ensure our junior players have the most experienced coaches available
c) to ensure potential junior coaches understand the requirements for coaching a team
This policy applies to all Inters and Cadets players who are interested in coaching a junior netball team with St Ives Netball Club.
Inters – Players aged 13 and 14 years
Cadets – Players aged 15, 16 & 17 years
Junior teams – A team of players aged 7 to 14 years (Inters)
1. Who can coach
a. An Inters player can only apply to be a Junior Assistant Coach, as can a player 15yrs+ without any experience. They must work with a Senior Coach (someone aged 18 or over) at all times.
b. Cadets with at least one full year junior assistant coaching experience are able to coach their own team as a Junior Coach however are required to have a Mentor Coach attend multiple training sessions. A parent must stand on the court and supervise at all times.
c. All Senior Coaches of junior teams will be given a Junior Assistant Coach if numbers allow
2. Selection process
a. All Inters players will be offered the opportunity to be a Junior Assistant Coach. This will be part of the registration process for each player. Should we receive more interest than teams allow, Junior Assistant Coaches will go through a selection process. This will be managed by the Coach’s Coordinator.
b. All Cadet players will be offered the opportunity to coach a team as a Junior Coach. This will be part of the registration process.
c. Junior Assistant Coaches and Junior Coaches will not automatically resume the position the following year
d. Junior Coaches will be graded and re-selected on effort and quality of coaching
e. All Junior Coaches under 18 years will keep a portfolio of practice structure, activities and drills which will be updated weekly. This will be become part of the grading and re-selection process
3. Requirements to develop coaching skills
a. All Junior Assistant Coaches and Junior Coaches must be available to attend all team practices and Saturday games wherever possible
b. Junior Coaches that have experience may have preference over beginning Cadet aged Coaches if numbers require
4. Payment for being a Junior Coach
a. All Junior Coaches will receive a weekly payment to help coach a team. The weekly payment will be based on the rate in the table below. The payment will be based on 1 x training session and 1 x game, each of which are paid separately.
b. If two Cadets wish to coach a team together as Junior Coaches, the payment must be shared between them (ie 50% each).
c. Payments will be made in two installments. The first in a mid-season payment and the 2nd at the end of the season.
d. A record must be kept of training and games attended and an invoice completed and sent to the Club Treasurer. This will then need to be approved by the JAC Coordinator and Club President. A template will be sent to each Junior Coach at the beginning of the season. If two Junior Coaches are sharing the coaching role only 1 invoice is to be completed but with the individual bank accounts recorded for payment to be split 50/50.
Payment Scale for Junior Coaches and Young Coaches –
Rates are 2 x per week (one amount for training session, one for game).

The President of St Ives Netball Club has governance over this policy and can only amend or update it on the approval of the Executive Committee.
