Umpire Roster

The Grand Roster (5-weekly roster) and Weekly Rosters are emailed to all umpires.  We notify all the umpires via email when there is a change to the roster, and also advise the weekly buddy allocations. The symbols used are:

If you have an X: You are umpiring. You need to be at the courts AT LEAST 15 minutes before your game. You then proceed to the St Ives tent (in front of Courts 1 and 4), to get your allocated court number, sign your name on the Umpire Sign-on sheet, then proceed to the court to commence game preparations. (RES – If you have an X and arrive at the courts to find you are a Reserve, then follow the SB procedures.)

If you have a SB: You are on Standby. You need to be at the courts AT LEAST 15 minutes before your game. Proceed to the St Ives tent (in front of Courts 1 and 4) to sign your name on the Umpire Sign-on sheet. Then report to the KNA Umpire Shelter (next to Court 4) and stay there until you are released. KNA usually wait about 5 minutes into the game before letting umpires go, in case an umpire has not turned up. If you are assigned a game, remember to return to the STI tent after your game, to change your SB to a full game, for payment.

If you have an INJ: You are on Injury duty. You need to be at the courts AT LEAST 15 minutes before your game. Proceed to the St Ives tent (in front of Courts 1 and 4) to sign your name on the Umpire Sign-on sheet. Then report to the KNA Umpire Shelter (next to Court 4) and stay there for the duration of the game, in case an umpire becomes ill/injured and you need to replace them. You will be paid your full badge rate.

Buddies: Please proceed to the St Ives tent to sign your name on the Umpire Sign-on sheet and find out which umpire (and court number) you will be buddying.  Buddies looking after UB umpires, please arrive at the court AT LEAST 10 minutes before the game to make sure that the umpire you are buddying is comfortable with the pre-game routine (checking nails, centre pass etc) and/or may have some questions for you before the game starts.

General Info:

The roster can be complicated to read but is set out this way as it is a multi-purpose document. It identifies all the St Ives teams playing in a timeslot and the minimum badge required for that team. If your name is next to a team, it DOES NOT mean you are umpiring that team OR grade. KNA pool all the club rosters and then allocate the umpires to the games. You will not be umpiring a St Ives team.

Sometimes St Ives provides umpires for other clubs and we list these clubs on the roster.  We also provide umpires at the last minute for other clubs. If you are umpiring for another club, you do not need to contact them. The Umpire Convenor sorts out all the admin, you just need to Sign-on at the STI tent as per usual, and then go to the court assigned to you

The rosters change frequently due to unforeseen circumstances.  Please ensure you are monitoring your emails (and WhatsApp on game day) for changes.

We realise there may be weeks you are unable to umpire (school camps, work etc), so if you are unable to umpire you must let us know so that we do not allocate you to umpire that week.  Even if you are not rostered on you should advise us so that if we are making last minute changes we do not allocate you on a week you cannot make.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries about the rosters or need anything clarified.
